We are a family of 5 situated in Durbanville, Cape Town which has a Mediteranean climate. The cold wet winters combined with brutally hot dry summers make for an interesting climate to try and grow a food forest year round.
Your host Cris Higham has been growing something for over 20 years. Initially spring bulbs (a love which still persists), then vegetables and a host of indigenous plants.
After moving to The Jungle house it was not long before we had an annual vegetable garden. We planted our first fruit trees in 2015 and have planted more each year. We have numerous fruit and nut trees, and continue to experiment to grow as much food as possible, naturally within the constraints of our water supply and other challenges.
